A Heart of Rust (New Poem)

The soul that gave a promise

Sold out to become free

Daunted by commitment

Comfort in being free

Recurring path he travelled

Just a different face each time

The broken dreams discarded

An everlasting crime

No guidance or commitment

Just a trail of pure deceit

The only victim of this game

Are the ones who taste defeat

For his heart has no emotion

Destroyed from days gone by

Eyes that stare so vacantly

He cannot even cry

For this is routine existence

Perhaps there is no end

Yet it will take a miracle

On that he can depend

Maybe within the fire

There lives a flame of hope

Some way to break this nightmare

And rise up from the slope

Until that day’s upon us

Just be careful whom you trust

For the heart cannot beat with love

Once corroded by life’s rust
